Laura McFayden has taken a winding but fascinating road to her home in Wilmington, North Carolina, where she now lends her vocal styling to the area’s musical scene. Performing in North Carolina since 2002, audiences have discovered her exceptional talent and her unique ability to easily move easily between the musical communities of pop, jazz and big band. Laura began her show business career in Florida as an athletic performer. As a physical education major with an interest in performing, she spent several years as a water ski show professional at Walt Disney World, Sea World and Florida’s famed Cypress Gardens, before touring as an ice skater in several theatrical ice shows around the country. Her first love being music, she was one of the original skaters to develop a singing act on ice. But a chance to perform in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and her subsequent relocation there proved providential. She met and married Jim McFayden, a popular bassist in the region. Since Wilmington was his home, they settled nearby and a rich collaboration began. Soon she began singing with the area’s top swing band, The Wilmington Big Band, and forming her own unique jazz and pop group, Stardust.
