Teddy Burgh studied music at Hampton University, Hampton, VA. Today he continues to enjoy writing and performing. Burgh has shared the stage with a number of artists, including Ray Charles, Richie Cole, Yolanda Adams, the Manhattans, Joe Chambers, and Kathy Sledge. He currently performs with the Teddy Burgh Trio, Lee Venters and Vermillion Sands (Wilmington, NC), and other groups in Southeastern NC.
The FROG Project is a dynamic jazz collective consisting of keyboardist Kevin Kolb, flutist Teddy Burgh, percussionist Troy Pierce, and bassist Ryan Woodall. All currently reside in Wilmington, NC, and intermittently crossed paths in various venues of the city’s music scene. In late 2009, through the brainstorm and gentle prompting of Kevin Kolb, the four came together in his FROG (Finished Room Over the Garage) and began to create. The chemistry was immediate and the FROG Project was born.
With influences from numerous musical genres, the group performs original compositions and fresh, innovative arrangements of familiar tunes.
In addition to performing music, Burgh is also a professor and archaeologist. One of his areas of special interest is archaeomusicology, also known as music archaeology. His most recent work is a book entitled Music Culture in Ancient Palestine with T&T Clark/Continuum Press, 2006.
